Alberta is an extraordinary Province in Canada and is home to the Canadian Rockies, glaciers, Banff and Jasper National Park and a wide range of adventure vacations. Alberta has to be one of my favorite, if not favorite, places for an adventure vacation. Not only is it one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been but it has magnificent peaks to climb, rushing rivers to raft, mountain passes to bike and glacier fed likes to kayak. I was lucky enough to travel to Alberta last summer with Austin-Lehman Adventures and had two of the best travel guides. So without further ado here is my Top 10 Things To Do In Alberta for the adventurers out there.

Sentinel Pass - Without a doubt my number one thing to do is hike Sentinel Pass. There is a 2,400ft elevation gain, but don’t be scared the hike isn’t that difficult. Along the way you hike through the Valley of the Ten Peaks, which is ten mountain peaks all in a row. The views from the top are breathtaking!!!

Glacier trekking on the Athabasca Glacier in Jasper National Park. This an amazing opportunity that you can’t pass up, trekking across an enormous glacier in the middle of the Canadian Rockies… Need I say more?

Get a “Canadian Kiss”- This isn’t the typical kiss! A Canadian kiss is a splash of freezing cold water while rafting down one of Canada’s roaring rapids. I got to raft along the Kananaskis River with a rafting company called Rainbow Riders, don’t let the name fool you. Those guys and girls are legit rafting guides.

Bike Highwood Pass- Alberta’s highest drivable pass at 7,239ft Highwood Pass is a great place to start your bike ride. The ride follows the highway down and the road isn’t too busy for cyclist, there are even bike paths as you get further down the hill. The ride descends into Kananaskis Country and there’s a chance to even see grizzly bears along the ride. No joke!

Rock climb- Climb Mount Yamnuska, a serious destination for climbers. Once again fear not, they have some easy routes for rookie climbers. Climbing up on Mount Yamnuska provides an adrenaline pumping time with amazing views.

Hike to Consolation Lakes- This hike starts at Lake Moraine and ventures up to Consolation Lakes, a set of alpine lakes that are surrounded by glacial erratic’s and a massive hanging glacier.

Explore Johnston Canyon- You’ll find limestone potholes and plunging waterfalls on a hike through Johnston Canyon. This is a very easy hike just outside of Banff, with several gorgeous waterfalls and has some cool catwalks that hang above the canyon.

Visit Lake Louise- Although it can get a little busy here, all you need to do to avoid the busloads of tourists is make the hike around the lake. If you’re up for it grab a canoe and take a paddle around the lake.

Bike to Lake Minnewanka- This bike route follows the Lake Minnewanka Scenic Dr. out of Banff and pass Cascade Pond and Two Jack Lake. Once you arrive at Lake Minnewanka, be ready for an incredible view of this massive lake. Then in enjoy the downhill ride back to Banff.

Hangout in Banff- Banff is the quintessential mountain town and home to several great bike rides and hikes around the town. Make sure you explore this awesome town.
