In the last two decades, Atlanta has shifted from a city known for rap music and high crime rates to a thriving metropolis with impressive art collections, award-winning restaurants and unique neighborhoods. These sights are frequented by tourists and locals alike, so you won't feel out of place.
1. World of Coca-Cola
Most people don't know that this world-famous beverage was created as a headache remedy in nearby Columbus, Georgia. To celebrate the drink this museum showcases how the soda is made, along with offering samples of other drinks from around the world, also made by the company.

2. The Varsity
Known as the world's largest drive-in, this sprawling restaurant has been frequented by sports fans, college students, politicians, celebrities and tourists since 1928. Through the choruses of "Whatta ya have?" step up and order yourself a glorified hot dog and a Varsity Orange. Photo by Caroline
3. Braves gameAlthough Atlanta is home to dozens of sports teams, the Atlanta Braves are by far my favorite. Even if you can't afford box seats with the likes of Ted Turner, the nose bleed seats offer great views of the city, as well as of the game. Grab a beer and a bag of the Southern specialty boiled peanuts for the full experience. And don't forget to do the "Tomahawk Chop."
4. Piedmont Park
This sprawling green space is Atlanta's answer to Central Park. There are walking trails, playgrounds, a public swimming pool and amazing views of the skyline. Grab lunch to go from one of the many neighboring restaurants and find a shady spot for the perfect picnic.

Right next door to the World of Coca Cola is the world's largest aquarium. The giant tanks are home to otters, belugas, whale sharks and every marine animal you can imagine. For a quick bite, try Wolfgang Puck's restaurant located inside of the aquarium. |
