Imperial, the horse of wonders

Imperial was born Febr. 14. 1960.

The experts had bad opinion about Imperial because he wasn’t a typical one. They thought, such a horse is not able to fight. But Imperial came, saw, and won. He was never beaten in Hungary. But he won in a same year not just the Hungarian, but the Austrian Derby, the Derby of the Socialist Countries, and an other derby in Prague as well.

He was 3 years old as he lost a competition after a very tiring season against a 5 years old English thoroughbred -  Espresso -, but he overran the international top field.

As he was 4 years old he won 6 derbies and lost 2. That was the end of his career as a racehorse, and became a father of racehorses.

The descendants of Imperial won 900 awards.

Imperial was very choosey. He loved just grey mares. So it happened very often, that the breeders beguiled Imperial with a grey mare, and in the last moment they changed the bride. Poor Imperial!

He moved to the eternal horse field in 1989. The whole Hungarian nation mourned for the legendary Imperial.
