If you found out that you have only one week to live...
We asked the question.... PART 2
If you found out that you have only one week to live and can go anywhere in the world for free, where would you go and why?
If I had one week to live, where would I want to go, and why? I would probably say Egypt. I've always loved the Pyramids and ancient artifacts. From a history standpoint, its the gift that keeps on giving. Its also one of the most visually stunning countries that I've seen in pictures.
If I only had one week left on this planet then you would find me booking a one-way ticket to Ireland. I spent a lot of time as a wee lad visiting the Emerald Isle and go back as much as possible as an adult. From the touristy city of Dublin to my family's town of Tipperary to the Dingle Peninsula, there is so much to see and do in this happy-go-lucky country. Plus it is home to the best Guinness on earth.
I would visit Aruba, for sure. The Dutch island is so memorable with the happiness of the people, and the adorable Divi Divi tree. I've had such amazing memories of this place that I can't wait to go back.
Plus, the capital, Oranjestad, is truly iconic in its architecture. It's only 4.5 hours from New York City and the ocean is always as warm as bathwater. Need I say more?
Such a hard question because there are so many beautiful places. First, in this fantasy, I would be healthy & so rich that I could bring all my family and closest friends along as family, friends, health and love are always more important than a place. Depending on the time of year, weather and conditions it would be Moorea,Bora Bora, north shore of Hawaii, Big Sur or Satornini as they all are very peaceful, spectacularly beautiful places that can feel like paradise.
Why? I think I have a thing for spectacular beauty, peacefulness, the mountain & sea combo! These places all feel like heaven to me when I am in a very pristine, isolated spot there able to enjoy nature at it's best.
I think I would spend that week down on the France/Spain border near Banyuls sur Mer.
The scenery is stunning, mountains to climb and bike, protected coastal reserve for diving, vineyards that grow to the cliff's edge.
Every time I go there I feel I have come home....
Failing back I'd go back to Patagonia....again :-)
My Green Grass of Home is London
I’ve been given the bad news that I only have one week to live. Time to say the adieus. Where would I want to go to spend my last days? It would have to be London because that was where I had the happiest moment of my life – the birth of our son, on a cold still-winter 18th of March 1988. He was born in Tooting at St George’s Hospital, where I had the best care from the moment I found out I was pregnant to the day I left , a week later, with our baby boy, Joshua.
London was never my desired trajectory ever since I told myself I want to go to Europe. I longed to go to Paris because I already studied the language. But fate had it that I married a German who first brought me to Europe via Germany. It was however fated that I would get to my longed for destination because his job in London as a journalist finally landed him and us in Paris.
I love Paris, but not as much as London. Although I was born in the Philippines, it’s London that I will always call “Home” and where I want to go back to to die.
