Get ready to dance Salsa and party!
Colombians are addicted to salsa dancing and they do it very well. It can be a little intimidating to get on the dance floor in the face of such competition, but there is no better way to learn some steps. All the major cities have a 'Zona Rosa' where dozens of clubs tend to be packed on top of each other. Every Colombian knows about the Festival of the Flowers in Medellín, Antioquia
The first’ flower’ carnival was realized the first of May in 1957, under the initiative of the illustrious” Antioqueño” Arturo Uribe, a member of the tourist and foment’ bureau, like a tribute to the month’ flowers. At this time it was only an incipient five’ day’ celebration without the today’ brightness, with stalls in many places of the city and private’ parties in the social’ clubs.
For the 1957’ celebration were included in the program’ two activities: 1) a flower’ exposition in the high’ altar of the Metropolitan’ Cathedral organized by the Medellin’ gardeners’ club and Monsignor Tulio Botero, 2) A “silleteros” ‘parade with the participation of 40 Santa Elena’ Area’ Peasants going down through the downtown until Bolivar’ Park.
Through the time, the party has been taken force being converted in one of the most’ important party in Colombia with a lot of prestigious outside the country. This activity that initially was celebrated in May, today is celebrated in August, like a tribute to the month of the Antioquia’ independence and since even it is an event of dressing with a colors’ variety in the city’ streets.
With the time, others events were included in the carnival, giving it a key role like: the cavalcade’ Guinness’ records in 1996 and 1999, the parade of the classic and antics ´cars, the exposition of orchids, birds and flowers, the “tablados” and “fondas” of the towns and villages. The Carnival of Barranquilla is one of the best parties of Colombia's traditional festival par excellence of the Colombian Caribbean, the happiest, most joyful, the most libertarian, full of traditions and clever and original costumes.
