Green Apple Books

In addition to new and used books, they also sell music and movies in their annex location, a few stores down. I never come here looking for anything specific, and just allow myself to wander – I could easily spend the afternoon exploring their art section alone. I’ve never left here empty handed, and most of my guest haven’t either!
China Beach

Photo By bubzlet Everyone has to see the Golden Gate Bridge when visiting San Francisco, right? This little beach at the edge of the wealthy Pacific Heights neighborhood has some of my favorite views of the bridge. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends, so walking or taking public transit are the best ways to reach China Beach. Bring a snack and enjoys the scenery.

Ice cream always makes a great dessert, but the flavors at Humphrey Slocombe make it something quite special. This is the ideal place to take adventurous eaters who are looking to try something new. The flavors offered changed day to day, and include Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee, Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip and Strawberry Black Olive. My personal favorite is the Peanut Butter Curry – yum!

There are a plethora of museums to choose from in the Bay Area, and the Asian Art Museum is my favorite. The Asian Art Museum is one of the largest museums dedicated to Asian art in the Western world, and besides its excellent permanent collection, the museum hosts’ excellent traveling exhibitions on the first floor. While most of the collection is focused on traditional arts, they make a point to feature contemporary Asian artists, which I really enjoy.

So this one isn’t technically in San Francisco, but to really appreciate the beauty of the San Francisco Bay Area, you do need to get out of the city…and a drive south on Highway 1 is really a must for any visitor. Only 30 minutes south of San Francisco, this stretch of two-lane highway is absolutely gorgeous. The section just south of Pacifica, known as Devil’s Slide, is the most dramatic with its steep cliffs and sea views. A perfect end to this drive is to indulge in the area’s delicious seafood. The seaside town of El Granada has a few restaurants by the docks that are always bustling and are a great place to eat.
