Five Best Places to Eat on a Budget in Sydney, Australia
By: Brooke Schoenman
Sydney is packed to the brim with a slew of great places to eat, coming from a range of cultures that inhabit this part of Australia. Most come with a price, as with anything in this capital city, but you'll be happy to know that even budget travelers can eat well here. It has become a hobby of mine to seek out delicious and cheap options for eating in Sydney, and here are five of the best.
1. Chinese Noodle Restaurant
Chinese Noodle Restaurant is a small, hole-in-the-wall joint that you would be lucky to stumble upon. I was taken here on my first week in Sydney by my boyfriend who used to frequent this establishment during his university days, and I was so happy he did. The food – handmade noodles and dumplings – are amazing, and the price tag is a bargain. The only drawback is a small dining area and a get-in, get-out vibe, but you just won't care after having some of their delicious noodles.
2. Harry's Cafe de Wheels
If you want something that screams Australia, then a meat pie from Harry's is your best bet. Not only can you get an amazing meat pie from Harry's, but you also have the option of topping it with mashed potatoes, gravy, mushy peas – or all three! You can get their famous Tiger Pie that does all that for less than $10.
Mamak does great Malaysian food from curries to roti. Take it from me, you can fill up on the delicious roti with dipping sauce alone, but you won't want to come to Mamak and not try some of their curry, fried chicken or even their mi goreng. My favorite part of the meal is trying to fit in a cone-shaped roti dessert before leaving.

4. Guzman y Gomez
Guzman y Gomez is probably the best burrito chain spreading across Australia at this moment. You can get giant burritos – stuffed to the brim with slow-cooked meat, salsa, black beans and rice – for $10. One of these guys will be big enough to fill most appetites, but if you have room for more, I suggest a side of the delicious tortilla chips.

If you're looking for Turkish food, a great little place to check out is Erciyes in Surry Hills. This Turkish restaurant will blow you away with their assortment of fantastic dips, fresh bread and their to-die-for pides. Come to the restaurant on weekend evenings, and you'll also be able to enjoy some live belly-dancing.
